The Venue

Immerse yourself in the rich experience of one of Melbourne's finest cultural institutions.

NGV International is just a short stroll from the CBD down St Kilda Road. Guests can feast on the 39,000 works of art which reflect many different styles and inspirations.

It is an inspirational space for any function.

The Great Hall is a large capacity function area. The high ceiling builds the ambience - and showcases a stunning stained glass design.

Persimmon is a classic restaurant setting. Its picturesque windows open the view onto the Grollo Equiset Garden - home to some of the gallery's most impressive sculptures. For evening events, these sculptures can be transformed by custom lighting design.

Federation Court, inside the main entrance, is also available. Functions and events can be held in the reflection of the Waterwall, or Level One in the opulence of the Tea Room.

Private viewings of the NGV collection can be arranged for guests to add to the Gallery experience.

Persimmon Café/Bistro

Set among the Grollo Equiset Gardens, Persimmon offers a spectacular dining experience. Head chef Terry Clark draws on artistic inspiration from the Gallery to deliver an exciting modern Australian menu.

Persimmon is fast becoming one of Melbourne's favourite lunch spots and will delight all food and wine enthusiasts.

Enjoy two courses and a glass of wine at the restaurant  for only $40 or three courses and a glass of wine for $50. Or perhaps enjoy the a la carte menu.

Choose from a range of award-winning entree, main or dessert dishes including NGV Head Chef, Terry Clark's seasonal dish of roast pork belly, grapefruit and fennel, borlotti bean cassoulet, five spice.

The Tea Room

Located on level 1, The Tea Room offers a moden interpretation of a timeless tradition.

Macaroons, éclairs and a delectable array of cakes and savouries, are all handmade by our team of talented pastry chefs.

Gallery Kitchen

Nestled on the ground floor between the NGV Shop and Federation Court, Gallery Kitchen focuses on simple, high quality produce and premium cofee.

Enjoy an irresistible selection of tapas, panini, Milanese-inspired pizza and Italian wines; or simply stop by to enjoy the skills of our baristas.

Questions & Answers

Can I have pre dinner drinks in the Grollo Equiset Garden or in a Gallery?

Yes, in the Grollo Equiset Garden however no food or beverage is allowed to be served in any Gallery space.

Can we have a personal tour of the Gallery?

Yes, fees do apply. Please speak to one of our Event Planners.

Can I float anything in the moat that surrounds the Gallery?

No, the moat works from a recycled water system.

What is the access time to the Gallery spaces?

In usual circumstances, Persimmon is available from 4pm and Great Hall from 3pm. Other times can be arranged with approval from the NGV.

Can we have a logo projected onto the Waterwall?

No, the Waterwall is considered a piece of artwork and there cannot be anything projected on it.

Are chairs and tables included in the venue hire cost?

Yes, we have 5 foot round tables that can seat up to 10 guests and we have up to 700 chairs.

Do you have a dance floor at the venue?

Yes. This is included in the venue hire cost. The size of the dance floor is 7m x 7m.

Can I have candles on the tables?

Yes, however the candle needs to be enclosed in glass. Unfortunately you cannot have candelabras

Do you have cloak room facilities?

Yes, this is serviced by NGV security.

Is there lift access or a loading dock?

Yes, a loading dock is located on Sturt Street and we have goods lift.

Do you have special car parking rates?

Unfortunately no, the car park is run by The Arts Centre which is a separate entity from the National Gallery of Victoria.

Is there a bridal or crew room available for use?

We don’t have separate rooms specifically for crew or brides but it can be arranged. This may incur an additional security fee.
