Chairman Peter Rowland, OAM, created the famous Peter Rowland Chicken Sandwich in 1962 and we have an inkling that the British peer credited with the sandwich being named after him,  the 4th Earl of Sandwich, John Montagu (1718-1792), would have savoured and favoured our chicken delicacy.

The recipe is shrouded in as much secrecy as the highly anticipated bridal gown of Ms Markle but unlike the designer of her dress, our secret will remain as such. Mr Rowland is the proud custodian of the secret recipe and has kept it close to his heart for 56 years.

“The secret is in the mayonnaise sauce and that is a secret we guard closely in our company. Only a privileged few have been taken into the inner sanctum and taught the recipe that I created all those years ago,” Mr Rowland said.

Our famous chicken sandwich is as Melbourne as the Melbourne Cup Carnival, private party or boardroom lunch. Or indeed, a wedding celebration, in an elegant garden party.

British members of the public who have been invited to the grounds of Windsor Castle to watch the wedding spectacle were told to bring their own picnic hamper and we have another inkling that they would love our Royal Wedding Chicken Sandwich Hamper.

The chicken sandwich is such an intrinsic speciality of Peter Rowland that we created the inaugural National Chicken Sandwich Day on November 1 in 2017 and welcome its return in 2018.
