Honeymoon Destination of the Month – East Africa

If you’re the sort couple who love a little “R&R” but know you’ll be scratching at the walls only a few days into your honeymoon, it’s time to think outside the square. Consider a romantic, relaxing honeymoon with a difference, where no two days are the same and an experience that’s bound to leave you wishing you’d stayed longer.

East Africa; an addiction one can only truly understand once it’s experienced first hand. Imagine an elephant herd stopping to drink by a waterhole as the herd’s cubs clumsily attempt to spray each other with water, or a pair of playful lion cubs practising their not-so-threatening roars on a nearby flock of birds just a stone’s throw from your safari vehicle; like an episode of National Geographic, only you’re not on your couch in front of the television, you’re in the heart of Kenya experiencing what many only dream of.

Camping in Africa gives a whole new meaning to the word “Glamping”, offering standards far beyond anything you’ve ever experienced. Imagine being welcomed by a beautiful plush four poster bed as you pull back the canvas entrance of your private permanent tent, complete with polished floors and an ensuite bathroom, boasting finely appointed amenities and a his and hers vanity. Now that’s what we call camping!

If spending the day driving through the savannah, stopping to enjoy a gourmet picnic lunch prepared on-route by a personal chef is all too much, you can always head back to camp and catch a few rays by the pool before the day’s out while the camp’s butler forces your hand with a refreshing gin and tonic and you contemplate your next move. Your next move of course will be obligatory “sundowner” drinks, the perfect ending to a day’s safari, exchanging stories with your fellow “campers” about sightings of the Big Five, all the while, watching a brilliant burnt orange sunset cast elongated shadows of the sparse acacia trees on the ground around you.

And if a beach stay is a must on your honeymoon check list, end your East African safari with a few days on the stunning coast of the Indian Ocean where turquoise waters lap against the shores of Mombassa’s Diani Beach. Spoilt for choice, accommodation here will not disappoint including the luxurious Almanara Resort where staff will cater to your every whim. Hmm, a champagne breakfast served on the private balcony of your beautifully appointed suite overlooking the azure waters below sounds just awful, doesn’t it?
